Yep, this is a post about the current librarians vs. scrota controversy. Isn't there something more constructive we could be arguing amongst ourselves about? Not that my own personal opinion matters much in the scheme of things, but doesn't the fact that the book is geared towards 4th-6th graders kind of take care of the problem? Chances are that they are aware of scrotums even if they don't know that particular word for them (they have other words for them, I can pretty much assure you). Plus, hello! - Newberry Award winner. There is an editorial about the subject here. My favorite reaction so far though has been from Neil Gaiman's blog - especially the tags for the entry.

Who am I? Well, I'll tell you.

My name is Emily. I am in my 30s and am a library and information (LIS) graduate student who will graduate in May from a university in Louisiana. I probably should have started this blog a year and a half ago when I first entered the LIS graduate program, but hey, better late than never. I will give a condensed version of my other semesters later on in another post. My background is in anthropology - I have a BA and an MA in anthropology, with an emphasis in cultural anthropology. I am in the academic library track in my LIS program, and soon (within the next couple of weeks) I will begin looking for a job as a librarian in an academic library, and I am specifically looking for a Reference position.

Over the years I have read various things about Generation X (the generation to which I belong) and about genXers in the workforce, and lately about genXers in librarianship. To that I say, "Whatever."

Yes, I wear glasses. Yes, I have a cat (the great and evil Toonces). No, I don't have any tattoos.

I intend to use this blog to document the process of going from a LIS graduate student in her last semester and a graduate assistant at a large research university to becoming a professional (and employed!) librarian. I also intend to post anything relating to librarianship that I find interesting, amusing, or annoying. Will anyone other than me ever read this blog? I honestly have no idea, but I hope someone else does. Unless they plan to make fun of me or something. If nothing else, the blog will be something for potential future employers to find when they Google me. :-D Will anyone (myself included) find this endeavor particularly enlightening? Ummmm.....well, probably not. But that's okay too. Because this blog is inevitable. Mwahahahahaha! (Insert Vincent Price evil laugh here).
